Inside the World Trade Centre in New Delhi, Lotus Cars has recently opened its first store in India. It is a new beginning for the UK-based manufacturer of high-performance vehicles entering a new and growing Asian market. It is not just a matter of showing off vehicles; it is a matter of showing intent by tapping into the growing demand for high-performance vehicles across the country. In a quiet but clear way, it tells us where the company wants to go from here.
Not content with just showing up, Lotus launched not one but two bold vehicles into the fray. Alongside was launched the new Emeya Hyper GT. It was sleek and looked the part. Riding alongside was the tuned-up version of the Emira Turbo SE. It made its presence felt. It was a step-by-step approach by Lotus of its plans for the country. There was power and intelligence at play, packaged beautifully. Each of the vehicles was a hint at what was to be.

A Strategic Move into India
Lotus was slow to get into the country but when it did, it was with purpose. Through Exclusive Motors, a name well-known to those who buy luxury vehicles, the path forward was clear. Almost immediately, what was most important became clear. It was not giving a car but giving access to something more. Experience was what had the last word.
Lotus recently turned its attention to the Indian market by launching the sleek electric SUV, the Eletre. It has now opened its first store in the country. It has launched new vehicles into the country that speak louder of its ambitions. There are clear plans at work here beyond a quiet hint.
Last year, twelve thousand Lotuses rolled out of the production line across the world. It was a car designed for the premium buyer. Close behind are Ferrari and Lamborghini. It is a clear message of where Lotus wants to go. In India, it tells us everything. In this country, it is a case of what sells overseas.
Lotus Emeya Electric Hyper GT
Something catches the attention right off the bat. It is the Lotus Emeya – Lotus making its foray into the electric vehicle segment with a bold statement of intent. Not only designed for speed but also to change perceptions regarding long-range electric vehicles. Placed high up in the pecking order when compared to other electric GT cars across the globe. It is a presence that alters the landscape simply by virtue of its existence.

What takes you aback is the speed at which the Emeya accelerates to 100 km/h in a mere 2.8 seconds. Vehicles designed for sheer power across the globe struggle to keep up. Yet, the surprise lies in the fact that while running on battery power means no stops for recharging the vehicle. A single charge is good for almost 610 kilometers down the road.
A mere fifteen minutes is all it takes to get to almost full charge. Ten minutes is all you need to get to eighty percent at a 400 kW DC charging station – speed is of the essence when you are driving. It is also priced at almost ₹2.33 crore without additional costs and is targeted at buyers who seek comfort with their high-tech gadgets.
Design technology performance
The Emeya, right off, turns heads. The design looks sleek, fitting right in with tomorrow’s look, all connected via innovative air design, such as the active grille up front working in conjunction with the rear diffuser and self-tuning lip in the back. The bold wheel arches also catch the eye. The large curves remind you of its track-bred heritage, directly from the long history of Lotus racing.
Silence surrounds the interior, soft but assured. Sound travels through the air, quiet, yet influenced by the KEF Uni-Q speakers working their magic without pretenses. Above, the HyperOS flows smoothly, designed in the background by Lotus. What appears to be plastic isn’t, but instead, it’s the result of something thrown away, something called Econyl.
Comfort doesn’t waver, even when attention turns to the earth. Soaring through the air, the Emeya delivers 905 BHP, reaching speeds up to 260 km/h. It’s not just the speed, though, that makes this car special, but the design working in conjunction with the electric power, making room for itself in the current premium EV market.
Lotus Emira Behind the Wheel
Right from the start, Lotus has targeted the right aim with the arrival of the Emira in India alongside the Emiya, built around the raw driving thrill. The Lotus Emira starts at a price tag of ₹3.22 crore (ex-showroom). While one promises new paths, the other promises the raw emotion of the brand, which has always been defined by speed derived out of gut feelings. And then, heritage comes alive.
There is a surprise waiting ahead. Under the hood, the Turbo and the Turbo SE carry the same four-cylinder turbo engine with an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission. While cutting through the wind, the Turbo SE promises almost 400 brake horsepower, going zero to 100 kph in just four seconds flat. The top speed is firm at 290 kph.
Premium Design With Custom Choices
Out of the gate, the Emira offers crisp looks and thoughtful details. Those satin grey 20-inch wheels? They define its presence. Improved brakes are along for the ride for sure-stop stops. Launch control is also included at no extra cost. New paint colors are also arriving at the same time as new interior fabrics. One choice at a time, personality leaves its mark on every version of the Emira.

Riding along in the front seats, flair is not quiet for long. What you’ll notice about a Lotus is their light weight – every turn is quick and immediate. Because of this, the wheels respond quickly to every input. The Emira’s personality is not defined by numbers; it’s defined by feel. Unlike other high-end sports cars, this one leaves the vibrations in tact. Movement is precise because feedback is not restricted. Roads once boring now call for attention and presence.
Company Leaders Talk About Expanding in India
“What we are seeing is not just a first show,” Dan Balmer said, as he is the head of Lotus Cars for Asia Pacific, the Middle East, and Africa. “The Emeya arriving in India? That’s a big deal.” He talked quietly as he said this new model aligns well with the tastes of the people of India. “A new era of premium electric motoring starts now.”
“This is a big step for us right now,” said Satya Bagla, who is the head of Exclusive Motors India. “Opening the Lotus showroom in New Delhi is a connection of two brands to deliver premium support to customers right from the beginning.”
A Promising Future Ahead
Lotus Cars enters India for the first time and presents a debut space to showcase bold vehicles. Rather than the Emeya to bring electric motoring to life, the Emira stays true to the raw spirit of driving and takes quiet ground. “The engines roar to life, yet the moment is quiet.” New paths are taken without noise. “Fueled by increasing interest, Lotus enters India at a time when customers are shifting towards premium vehicles.” It is not only new vehicles hitting the road but also the rush within each curve of the vehicle that is gaining attention. It is not only enthusiasts but also serious spenders who get to feel this pulse of the vehicle.
